Abstract

The present study aimed primarily to examine the perceptions of prospective teachers and supervisors regarding a redesigned practicum program developed to address limitations of the existing model. A secondary aim was to explore areas of convergence and divergence between prospective teachers’ self-reflections and supervisors’ evaluative feedback on a specific practicum teaching session conducted during the final term. Data were collected from six prospective teachers majoring in language teaching and two faculty supervisors through written responses to two structured reflection and evaluation guidelines. The findings indicate that both prospective teachers and supervisors perceived the redesigned practicum program as having notable strengths, particularly in terms of the increased time allocated to classroom practice and feedback sessions. However, participants also identified the concentration of active teaching practice solely in the final year as a significant limitation of the program. Further analysis of the reflective documents revealed that prospective teachers had developed a strong reflective orientation over the course of their education. Nevertheless, discrepancies were observed between prospective teachers’ self-reflections and supervisors’ feedback, especially with regard to materials use, lesson planning, and instructional methods. The findings offer important implications for the design and implementation of language teacher education programs and for the professional practices of teacher educators.
